Njaralappuzha Sree Dharma Sastha Temple

Njaralappuzha(ഞരളപ്പുഴ) Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, known for the uniqueness of its sacred idol and roofless sanctorum, is located at Puthanangadi, Vayala in Kottayam district, Kerala.
Here, on the tranquillity of a divine hilltop, Lord Ayyappa presides as the supreme deity bringing contentment, spiritual realisation, prosperity and fulfilment of devotee's wishes and desires.
== History ==

It is believed that the place was a dense forest years ago. A group of young herdsmen, while herding their cattle on the hilltop, lost one of their calves, and began praying to Lord Ayyapa for help. The legend says that Lord Ayyappa appeared before them and guided the lost calf back to the herdsmen. The idol the herdsmen worshipped became the deity of Njaralappuzha Dharmasastha . Reminding the endless love and compassion of Lord Ayyappa toward the helpless and poor, the sanctum sanctorum of Njaralappuzha temple even today stands without a roof.
